Michel has 21 years of medical device industry experience in North America and Europe leading international teams, raising capital, and developing innovative medical devices from concept to market. His prior startup roles include: Founder & CEO of iSTAR Medical; co-Founder, CEO & Chairman of Healionics; and co-Founder & Director General of Medimexico (acquired by NxStage Medical - NXTM). A passionate entrepreneur and patented inventor, he is excited about pioneering the next generation of wearable devices to benefit patients. Michel earned an MBA from the University of Washington, a BSc from San Francisco State University, and an AA from De Anza College. He is fluent in English and Spanish, and basic French.
Marie is an international business development executive with 20 years of experience in the high tech and life science industries. She has created and nurtured sales channels in Asia, Europe, Latin America, USA and the Middle East. Her prior roles include Director of International Sales for innovative USA and European companies in the wound healing and dermatology sector including Procyte Corp. (acquired by Photomedex), Helix Biomedix, and EndyMed. Marie is a dual citizen of Belgium and the USA. She is fluent in English, French, Spanish, and some German. She earned her B.S. degree from the University of Washington with a focus in international management. .
Pierre has 15 years of experience in the healthcare industry in various functions including R&D, regulatory and clinical affairs, quality management, market access and reimbursement. He has served both major corporations (GlaxoSmithKline, Baxter) and startups including iSTAR Medical. Holder of a Master’s in Mechanical Engineering and an International Executive MBA, Pierre's unique ability resides in a mixture of a creative and flexible approach to challenges, translating into a comprehensive and structured strategy, wrapped with a real passion for new technologies.
Philippe has 19 years of experience as an electro-mechanical engineer and team leader passionate about incorporating innovative design with solid engineering to develop next generation medical equipment and devices. His prior roles include Engineering Team Leader at GE Healthcare, Senior Engineer at Trasis, and Design Engineer at C.P. Bourg. Philippe received his Mechanical Engineering degree from the University of Liège.
Dr. Janssens de Varebeke was the Life Sciences specialist of foreign investment projects of AWEX (2006-2017) and is the Chairman of ImmunXperts (since 2013). He is also a Non Executive Board Director of life sciences companies OncoDNA, Delphi Genetics, and Bio-Sourcing. Previously, Dr. Janssens de Varebeke was a venture capitalist for several funds: EuroVentures Benelux, Sopartec and Vives I; and Board member of successful life sciences companies including Eurogentec, IBt, Medgenix, Eurogenetics, IBA, Neurotech, ISW, and RheinBiotech. He was also an Advisory Board Member of Qiagen, Biora, AMR, Conforma, GenPharm, Pharming, Orgenics, Quadrant and Eurotechcapital. Dr. Janssens de Varebeke started his career at the Université Catholique de Louvain then joined Searle (now Pfizer) where he worked for more than 12 years in various positions. He holds a PhD in Biochemistry and an MBA from Université Catholique de Louvain.
Robin has over 20 years of experience with public and private company boards in medtech, biotech, pharma, and personal care products. She is currently President and CEO of Helix BioMedix (HXBM), a leading peptide therapeutics biotech in dermatology and personal care products. Previously, she served as COO at DERMAdoctor, Inc., a dermatology product e-commerce retailer specializing in over-the-counter drugs and cosmeceuticals. Robin also served ProCyte Corporation and Baxter Healthcare in various roles from clinical research to senior sales and marketing positions. Robin holds a B.S. in Nursing from Seattle University and attended the UCLA Anderson Graduate School of Executive Management. She is a recognized speaker and author on industry topics including peptides, aesthetic surgery and skin care. Robin is co-inventor on six US patents and numerous international patents.
Alvalux Medical was launched in November 2015. It is the 2nd Belgian medical device company founded by Michel Alvarez in the Région wallonne. In its first three years, it has secured $3m through private equity and government research awards and financings, built an experienced R&D team, filed three patent families, developed a network of key suppliers and R&D partners, and released its first CE Marked medical device.
